Toronto Centre offers an interesting preview of what each party’s plans are for the next federal election. This is more true of the Conservatives than anyone else because, as we now know thanks to the firing of the previous Conservative candidate Mark Warner, they are running a “cookie cutter” campaign that is to be deployed identically into every riding across the country. One particular aspect of this campaign is a series of flyers that portray all issues as being black and white—or, rather, red and blue—with the Conservatives on one side and the Liberals on another. They are extremely simplistic, and feed my previously stated theory that Stephen Harper thinks you’re stupid. For example, their flyer on taxes simply says “higher / lower” (applied to the Liberals and Conservatives respectively), and their flyer on crime simply says “tough / soft.”
Watch the following video, recorded during last Thursday’s debate at Rosedale United Church, to see how that’s working out for them. This is Bob Rae at his best, Don Meredith close to his worst, and me somewhere in the middle.
Further, here’s my opening statement from the same debate.
Wow, that was a pretty intense video…I am glad I watched it though. It was the first time I had seen you in action. Chris, you are a fantastic candidate. If I expanded on this, it would take far too long! Keep it up.
Woah that was very heated but also very well handled by Bob and especially you Chris. Keep it up!
The Rosedale debate was an excellent one. Chris did an amazing job. The questions from the audience were very well thought out and informed and the attendance was excellent!
ps. excellent
Well done Chris. When you are elected we will start calling Question Period the Question AND Answer Period!
Well done. I didn’t feel watching the video that you were trying to score point with voters, rather conveying the tragic, simple picture that partisan politics has been reduced to.
Thanks for posting this, Chris, and so many other videos. It gives us a chance to experience events in the riding which we may not be able to attend. It’s just one way you are opening up the democratic process!
As for the all candidates meeting, and the issue you presented, it’s never been more clear that what Stephen Harpers wants in a candidate is a mere puppet. You are the best alternative to Bob Rae, hands down!
