The definitive blog post on the issue, Chris. Well done.

Libel law varies province to province, I believe we have to change the law in each province, unless we can devise some sort of Federal legislation to asnwer this problem.

I think that it is just plain wrong that Hayley has been dragged into this.

This was an informative entry about something that could effect all of us who write (sometimes unpopular) things online. It needed to be long because it had to cover certain ground, otherwise it wouldn’t have made sense. I read most of it, and frankly, it worries me…

This article highlights a very important point that needs addressing. The need to adjust our legal definitions in a timely fashion while ensuring precedents are maintained.

It exists for not only libel law, but copyright law and other (generally civil) matters.

P.S.- This post was one of the longest things I have ever seen on a blog. Never let it happen again.

I found it very informative (and entertaining!) and worrying. I’m based in Australia and i think our laws are similar to Canadian laws in the libel/slander arena.

We are setting up a Wiki at the moment and while i fear not the wrath of legal proceedings that is probably because i’ve never had to actually face court.

We once were threatened at http://www.unolympics.com by the IOC’s attack dogs but we had some fun with it and it didn’t go anywhere.
